This video shows the beautiful homes of Yves Saint Laurent in Paris (55 Rue de Babylone) and Marrakech which he discovered in the 70’s. YSL and his partner Pierre Berge created wonderful homes filled with interesting, expressive items. In their Paris home was a collection of renowned painting by artists such as Matisse, Picasso and Cézanne but also found pieces such as beautifully organic driftwood.
Marrakech was YSL’s escape and was designed in a Morocan style away from the Parisian refinement of no. 55 but still classically elegant. The Majorelle gardens are an oasis with an amazing feel and tranquility, a place to get lost in and find oneself.
The background music is “Mister Mellow” by Maynard Ferguson and “Szerelem, Szerelem” by Gabriel Yared from The English Patient soundtrack. The movie excerpts are from the YSL documentary L’Amour Fou (2010) following the sale of his and Pierre Berge’s art collection. The commentary on the video is by Jacques Grange who was the interior designers for their two homes.
