(23 Jan 2018) GIAMBATTISTA VALLI SHOWS LATEST COLLECTION DURING PARIS FASHION WEEK
Giambattista Valli is one of those fashion designers who attracts other fashion designers to come see his shows. Monday (22JAN2018) evening’s SS18 couture show was no exception, with Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing joining the cream of Europe’s socialites front row at the Petit Palais in Paris.
The collection started soberly with black or white lace dresses (with shiny thigh-high fetish boots), then began to sprout more volume and color: dresses grew embroidered flowers, cascading layers of ruffles, sequins, integrated capes and long dramatic trains. Silk dresses shone with magnificent colors, such as rich purple or Bordeaux. And a couple of spectacular ruffled tulle numbers closed the show in birthday-cake pastels of bubblegum or mint. The models wore ballet flats with exposed legs, or else towering heels under long skirts.
Afterwards, Valli explained that he wanted to explore the idea of a goddess come to life and falling into a wild garden. Like a garden, he wanted to create something fresh, spontaneous and effortless to wear.
