Anti-Trump protesters in New York have been anticipating the arrival of President Trump for weeks, urging their supporters to don suffragist white as a act of defiance.
In striking contrast, Melania Trump chose to wear lemon yellow to accompany her husband for dinner with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at the Intrepid Sea Air and Space museum on the Hudson River.
The Christian Dior yellow silk crepe asymmetric dress was not dissimilar to the evening dress she wore at the Inaugural ball in January which was co-designed by her dresser-in-chief, Hervé Pierre. Though Trump generally favors a more pared-back palette of black and white, it’s not the first time she has sported a vivid hue—the infamous Gucci pussybow blouse she sported on the campaign trail was a shade of shocking pink; she also wore kelly green to meet Queen Rania of Jordan. Perhaps this is her attempt to project optimism at a time when the country stands more divided than ever.
